Have you ever had indigestion when you go to sleep? It’s the worst, right? It will keep you up tossing and turning, and you wind up not getting enough sleep. It must be all the coffee that keeps me going. I usually stay up until about 1 AM, so by the time I go to bed, my digestion has certainly kicked into high gear. I eat dinner at about 6:30, so that gives me some time.

When I don’t eat a healthy diet, you can bet that I still feel it when I go to bed. Take for instance Friday’s, which is when I like to eat pizza. Often instead of getting a pizza for myself, I will get cheesy bread. Let’s just say that I don’t even want coffee after that meal. I still have one, but I’m too busy drinking tea to try and hydrate myself after all that sodium.

I love my pizza, but I recognize how important it is to eat a good meal to get healthy sleep. On pizza nights, after all that tea, I might wake up twice to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I like waking up in the middle of the night because I get this certain feeling and also realize I have more sleep to come. But to be honest, waking up cuts into your quality of sleep.

Therefore, it’s imperative as mentioned to be sure and eat a healthy diet. Even if you don’t stuff yourself as I do at dinnertime, the food you eat can cause an upset stomach if you make unhealthy choices. We all do make those unhealthy choices from time to time. I’m not sure I’m going to make it through this weekend without claiming my free medium cheese pizza from the local restaurant.

What I can tell you, however, is that after eating a salad, I feel like a million bucks. Take it from a vegetarian who just had an outstanding day. After eating salad, I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight, though I might also have a bag of popcorn with sprinkles of white cheddar topping during movie time.
